Visit the Long Island Heritage Museum and Tea Room. The Tea Room is a restaurant serving three meals per day, Wednesday-Sunday, 8:30am-6pm.
Every item on the menu is made from scratch with fresh and local ingredents. From homemade bread to baked beans. You will even find some tasty seafood dishes on the menu. A full breakfast is also served daily along side of a perfect cup of tea or coffee. It might not be your usual greasy spoon but the downhome hospitality will leave you wanting more.
Call ahead to find out the daily specials 709-264-3104.
Homemade crafts can also be purchased at the heritage center. Local residents have many creative talents taught to them by their own family members from years gone by. You never know what hand crafted treasure you might find. There are knitted items such as mittens, socks and scarfs. Items vary week to week so you never know what one of kind item you might walk away with.
The heritage center also has a museum upstairs with many artifacts that have stories of their own to tell. Each item on display has been generously donated by the families from the island. You cannot help but feel like you are taking a walk back in time. Souvenirs can also be purchased at the museum which help to provide funding for the center and its upkeep.
